You can help by ridding household waste responsibly. Regular waste collection occurs on a set weekday based on your location. In order to find out when to place your bins outside, look up your address on this webpage: https://www.cityofkingston.ca/resident/garbage-recycling/waste-tools/calendar
Recycling
Each residence can receive two free blue boxes, and one free grey box. Replacements can be given out if previous bins are lost, stolen or broken. Extra bins can be purchased for $5.35 each. Multiple recycling bins can be placed outside on collection day.
Grey boxes hold: bags, stretchy plastic film, newspaper, flyers, office paper, envelopes, shredded paper (in transparent bags), boxboard, food and beverage cartons, coffee cups (lid removed), and corrugated cardboard.
Blue boxes hold: metal food and beverage cans, pop cans, pie plates, clean aluminum foil, clear and coloured glass bottles/jars, plastic bottles, plastic jars, tubs and lids, white Styrofoam and paper cans with steel lids.

Garbage
Anything that cannot be reused, recycled or composted is garbage. If possible, try to avoid creating garbage. Each residence can put one untagged bag of garbage out for collection day. Any number of tagged garbage bags can be put out. City garbage bag tags are $2 and can be purchased either online or at a large number of locations throughout Kingston. City staff request that garbage is out by 6 a.m. on collection day.

Events
The next Giveaway Day is Saturday, April 6th, 2019. On this day, you can place items you no longer want on the curb for someone to pick up. Items such as books, CDs, DVDs, furniture, electronics, construction materials, dishes, cutlery and other kitchen items are all appropriate items to place on the curb. Items that should not be given away are baby walkers, cribs, car seats, strollers, playpens, bath seats, mattresses, blinds and toys.
Items left at the curb by the end of the day need to be removed or they could be subject to fines. Consider donating the items to charity!
